Halloween... Even in China.

The day before Halloween, we received our sea shipment.  You know how desperate we were to get this shipment when Garrett agreed to forgo his most favorite holiday to make this "Christmas" like event take place.  We have been waiting so long for it.... what is one more day.
Rupert has been such a big part of our holiday tradition in the states that it was a must that we buy his cousin (also named Rupert - the kids are SO imaginative).  At the time this seemed to be a great idea - that is until the perpetual pitter patter of feet during the night occurred.  The kids were scared to have him in the house with us as he resided in our garage back in Florida.  Our fun with Rupert was short lived until I realized that we could use this to our advantage.   Rupert ended up on our bedroom door and we haven't had a visitor since!
Garrett's costume this year was very fitting.  We didn't know what we were getting into when we dove 45 minutes to the costume shop in Shanghai.  The costumes were actually very creative and it was nice finding some unusual costumes we wouldn't normally find in the states.   If given the choice, I think Garrett would have been Lady Gaga... but when he saw the pitch fork that went with the devil he quickly changed his tune.  (Thank GOD!)  As we said, the costume fits his personality in so many ways.  I am sure his teacher saw the irony with it.

No surprise that Ayden chose to be a princess again.   Although, I must admit, it sometimes goes to her head and she gets into character far to easily.
Rupert had some stiff competition with Jordan's costume this year.  I have to admit, even I had to hide the mask until trick or treating.  The kids found it absolutely hysterical to pop out on our "Ayi" with it on and I am pretty sure she was close to quiting.
So to answer your question, no the Chinese do not celebrate Halloween, but that doesn't mean we don't.  There were a lot of people out trick or treating and because we live in an area that has a lot of expats, there was plenty of candy to be had.  Even I sprung for the mini American Snickers bars... only 15 bucks a bag!
